Altered States No. 8

Altered States, No. 8
March 20, 2008

Well, I got through one night with my bracket intact — barely. The first couple days are always the most fun, as long as you don’t lose your Final Four teams right away. I’m planning on riding Villanova a long way, and man, American had me sweating last night.

The truth is in the last couple years I haven’t followed it all as ridiculously close as I used to.  There just isn’t enough time. But as long as I beat McCray …

And with the tournament started, it also signals the start of spring, which is always a good thing. A couple track teams are coming off state-champion winter seasons, and Northern softball and La Plata baseball defend last year’s state championships. A person would be hard-pressed to find a better conference for those two sports anywhere in the state. And more than anything else, it’s just nice to be back outside.

Thinking of state championships, Westlake had its football banquet this past week to celebrate its state championship season this past fall. The varsity players got their rings, and the number of former Wolverine Randy Starks was retired. After Westlake, Starks went on to play at Maryland and has played in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins. Go HERE to check out some pictures from the night.

See ya’ out there, and spring coaches/stat people, remember the score e-mail and hotline: dcmetroscores@digitalsports.com or call 703-401-4016.
